This semester, I interned with the head strength & conditioning coach Adam Hinders. During my time in my internship, I worked with Adam almost everyday, shadowing and learning from him and what a day in the life is like. I worked in the athletic weight room which is most often only occupied with athletes and coaches.
As Adam Hinders intern I was given a few different jobs over the course of the semester. In the beginning I worked mostly on set-up and clean-up before and after team lifting while I shadowed him. From there I continued to clean up the weight room at the ends of the day but I also began running each team through their team lifting sessions. Sometimes working with the other interns.
I worked with the Men's and women's volleyball team, as well women's basketball, track and field and football. At the beginning of the semester I mostly worked with men's volleyball because I wrote their program and I was in season. In the latter portion of the semester I worked with more teams and have been working with football twice a week for the last few weeks on Tuesday and Thursday mornings observing, taking notes and assisting in exercise movement.
I had an amazing experience working with Adam, he taught me a lot throughout the entire semester, I was constantly challenged and my passion for this area of study increased. Because Adam is so involved with each team on campus here, learning from him and seeing what goes in writing so many different program made me have even more appreciation for strength and conditioning.
